Year B - Spring 2 - Fun Food Factory

Welcome to our exciting topic, Fun Food Factory! Throughout this topic, the children will explore how food is made and where it comes from whilst developing a wide range of skills across the curriculum. Through practical activities, creative learning and hands-on experiences, children will become curious learners and confident communicators.

Literacy

In Literacy, we focus on developing resilience and confidence in writing. The children will write instructions linked to our Design Technology learning whilst making apple crumble. We will also explore the story 'What the Ladybird Heard Next' to inspire children to write about places they have visited in a farm setting.

We use Oracy and Talk for Writing strategies to support speaking, listening, vocabulary development and storytelling, helping children to become enthusiastic and capable writers.

Geography

In Geography, the children become food detectives! They will taste a variety of foods and investigate which countries they may have come from by looking closely at the ingredients used. Children will also learn how food is transported from around the world and explore which food comes from plants, animals or both. We will investigate how different foods grow and discover more about the journey food takes before it reaches our homes.

Music

In Music, we continue to use Charanga to support our learning. Children will develop their skills in listening and appraising music, singing and composing. Through musical activities, children will build confidence, rhythm and creativity.

Religious Education

In Religious Education, we will explore how light is utilized in a variety of religious celebrations and festivals. Children will learn about the symbolism of light within different faiths and reflect on why light is such a special part of celebrations around the world.

Design Technology

In Design Technology, the children will evaluate, design and create their own apple crumble alongside our school cook. They will learn important food preparation skills including chopping, peeling and knife safety. This practical experience will encourage reciprocal skills, independence and safe working practices in the kitchen.

Computing

In Computing, we use ScratchJr to develop coding skills. Children will create animations using a variety of characters and backgrounds whilst learning different algorithms and commands such as repeat, wait, appear, disappear, shrink and enlarge. This helps children to develop logical thinking, sequencing and problem-solving skills in a fun and creative way.

Physical Education

In Physical Education, we focus on invasion games using a variety of different balls to develop teamwork and coordination skills. Children will also take part in gymnastics, creating sequences using apparatus to improve balance and movement.

We are also excited for wheelchair basketball sessions, giving children the opportunity to experience a unique and inclusive sport whilst developing cooperation and invasion game skills.
