Our Curriculum

How our curriculum will enable our children to grow.

Global citizens

We will promote a respect for the world we live in. We want our children to take ownership, pride and responsibility for the part they play in protecting our planet. Through the curriculum we will give children the knowledge to understand how they can make a difference. Staff will play an integral part in ensuring they look at curriculum through an “eco lens” and as a school we will work towards achieving and maintaining the eco schools Green Flag award.

Right attitudes- for learning and for life.

We want children to know how to take ownership of their learning. Through explicitly developing learning attitudes, children will have the capacity to become learners for life.

We will teach children how to be resilient; to stick at it. Ensuring that children know that to feel challenge is okay. Then we give them tools to overcome it.

We will teach children to be reflective; to stop and think. To reflect on they know already, to make connections – known and new. We will encourage children to think beyond the content, to question to be curious.

We will teach children to be responsible. To know how to take responsibility for their learning, how to organise themselves and their thoughts. We will support children to learn that taking responsibility for their choices and the impact they have, will impact; them, their family, the community and the wider world

We will teach children to be resourceful; to find a way. We will encourage inquisitiveness, we will scaffold learning that “shows children where to look” That they know when to “take risks” with their thinking and learning. We will actively promote higher order questions and encourage children to transfer knowledge and skills across different situations.

We will teach children to be reciprocal: to work with others. Through positive relationshiops and respect we will encourage reciprocity. We will help children to see the value in seeing anothers point of view/idea/ That they can accept constructive criticism from others to improve their performance.

One of a kind

We will promote a culture of inclusion where children are seen and embraced for their unique talents and attributes.  Their beliefs, faiths and feelings will be valued and respected.  Through our curriculum we will learn about the diverse and rich world we live in and what every unique child/adult can bring to it. We will also look for, the child that might require additional support: academic, social or emotional. We will identify the need and support accordingly.

Wonder and Awe

We want our children to be motivated and engaged. We want our curriculum to be inspirational. We enrich our curriculum by providing:

  • Creative Curriculum from Nursery to Year 6
  • Bespoke Outdoor Learning curriculum/ Forest School and Eco Council
  • Music Tuition of a tuned instrument for all children.

Welcome to KS1!

We are making the exciting transition from FS2 into Key Stage 1. Learning about the circus, dinosaurs and polar regions around the world! Our staff are eager to ensure the children gain skills and knowledge through our GROW curriculum. The attitudes enable children to be life-long learners and independently identify how they learn best in multiple subjects and topics.

We are learning to become more independent and undertake new challenges in our learning. We still learn through practical activities, using a variety of resources to make our lessons engaging and enjoyable and keeping us curious!

Next year, we are excited to be starting KS2!

Phonics Screening

During the Summer Term, Year 1 students will take part in the national phonics screening check. This is a statutory reading check that all Year 1 children will undertake. It is designed to ensure children are achieving or working close to the age-appropriate standard for decoding by the end of the year. This assessment helps us understand each child's phonic knowledge in identifying and blending sounds. Please see a parents' information leaflet for phonics below.

Homework

Homework is an important part of our learning, especially as we continue to build fluency in reading. We encourage children to read at home for at least 10 minutes, three times a week. This helps with their fluency, comprehension, and confidence. Additionally, they will bring home some harder to read and spell words. Happy reading!

Thank you for your ongoing support.
